When the devastating 2021 floods ravaged the South Caribbean, The RISE Foundation rose to the occasion, providing critical aid to thousands of families in Talamanca who lost their homes and infrastructure. We mobilized quickly to distribute food parcels, warm clothing, and blankets to displaced families, addressing urgent survival needs in the face of overwhelming loss. Some fast facts about this project:

  • Location: La Palma, near the Costa Rica–Panama border
  • Project Type: Community Outreach & Food Security
  • Beneficiaries: ~200 children and their families
  • Timeline: Launched in 2024 – Ongoing
  • Monthly Food Cost: Approx. $1,000 USD
  • Partners: Local supermarkets (donation carts), future grant partnerships in progress.

About the Project:

In 2024, The RISE Foundation reached the remote community of La Palma, where families rely heavily on low-wage labor from banana plantations. Here, we uncovered a heartbreaking reality: children often go without food on weekends when school meal programs aren’t available.

What began as a festive event, a simple party for the children, uncovered a critical need. In response, our La Palma project was born, offering both immediate relief and a vision for long-term community empowerment.

We currently provide food support while developing sustainable initiatives to help the community grow stronger from within. Through local supermarket donation carts, we’re creating a continuous stream of aid. We’re also pursuing larger donations and grants to reach our monthly goal of feeding all 200 children consistently.

What the project needs:

  • Monthly donors to meet the $1,000 food budget
  • Partnerships or grants to scale medical and veterinary care
  • Donations for events and enrichment activities for children
  • Expertise or support for sustainable farming solutions

We welcome supporters ready to help turn this vision of resilience into a reality for La Palma.

Every dollar helps transform hunger into health and despair into joy.

Food Security:

Nutritious meals for 200 children

Seasonal Programs:

Holiday gifts, cultural activities, and community gatherings

Sustainable Agriculture:

Tools and training to enable community-grown food

  • Empowerment through self-sustaining food initiatives
  • Increased community morale and social cohesion

This is about more than feeding children, it’s about giving them the freedom to dream.

Working with the community, for the community:

We work hand-in-hand with La Palma residents to build a project that’s rooted in dignity, respect, and sustainability. As we grow, we’re committed to supporting their dreams whether that means a warm meal, a cherished memory, or a thriving garden.

From food aid to farming innovation, we’re here to walk this path with the people of La Palma not just for them.
